Adobe Brick Restoration
J. Luis Garcia has been a brick mason since 1992 working in all phases of construction and restoration. Partnering with Pat Friend of Adobe Dreams, J. Luis has become an expert adobe brick artisan. Pat has shared with him her experience and knowledge of adobe brick restoration.
J Luis Garcia Masonry has been making adobe bricks on Pat Friend’s site using her adobe brick molds for over four years. J Luis Masonry has assumed all brick production on the Pat Friend site. Situated on the south slopes of Palomar Mountain, adobe bricks are made with the same beautiful clay soil that has been used for decades.
Adobe Bricks are Sustainable
Adobe bricks have gained popularity in recent years as a sustainable building material due to their low environmental impact. The production of adobe bricks requires minimal energy, as they are simply sun-dried rather than baked in a kiln like traditional bricks. Additionally, the materials used to make adobe bricks are often sourced locally, reducing the need for transportation and further decreasing their carbon footprint.
Adobe bricks also have excellent thermal mass properties, meaning they can absorb and store heat during the day and release it slowly at night, helping to regulate the temperature inside a building without the need for additional heating or cooling systems. This can lead to significant energy savings and make adobe buildings more comfortable to live in.
